Eat London: Flatiron

*Warning – this post is not suitable for vegetarians*
My strategy to beat the January blues has been to rebel against diets and resolutions as much as possible! So when my lovely dinner date suggested we go for STEAK – I could hardly contain my excitement!! I’d been waiting for an excuse to go here for awhile and let me tell you, I’m already planning my next visit!
Flatiron was born out of a pop-up restaurant last summer, which I totally missed (apparently they are out this year and permanency is what it’s all about! refer here), which has now set up residency in Soho.
I prepared myself for a wait (yep, it’s one of those places)… but I knew I had soooo much to catch up on with said date that I wasn’t too worried. Lo and behold we were seated immediately (perhaps everyone else is taking this detox thing seriously after all), in probably the best seat in the house too, a cosy little alcove for two (oh yeah!) – albeit surrounded by meat cleavers pinned to the walls….
Anyway, the menu is simple. There is steak (either the regular for £10!? I know!? good huh!? or the special of the day for double) and sides (choice of 3 salads, greens, fries, etc) and a choice of sauces. Too easy.
We got the £10 Steak, a selection of sides, house salad, roasted aubergine with parmesan and horseradish cream (special mention: the chips were to-die-for and I don’t usually do chips).
The cutlery!
Obviously still starving (!!) we needed dessert… I’d read about the doughnuts before we went – and i’m a huge doughnut fan from way back, so I was super excited. You source your doughnuts from the basement bar – they have this super fancy machine where they fill them for you in real-time (wow!). There was Rhubarb and custard cream and both, I can report were delicious.
Seriously this place is great! The service was relaxed and friendly (if somewhat vague, but fun) and dinner for two (including a much needed bottle of vino – The French Malbec obvs) was £25 each (excluding tip).
Do it.
